Fraud is on the rise at an alarming rate. Consumers lost more than $10 BILLION to fraud in 2023 – a 14% increase from 2022! Protecting yourself against fraud takes a combination of proactive measures and vigilance. Below are some steps and things to remember so you don’t fall victim to fraudsters:
- If you receive an unexpected phone call from someone claiming to be from SanCap Bank asking for personal information, please ask the person their name and the phone number they can be reached. Please then call 239-472-6100 to confirm we in fact contacted you.
- If you’re a SanCap Bank customer who mistakenly provided any personal information or who has been impacted by fraud, please contact us immediately at 239-472-6100 to report the fraud and update all necessary credentials.
- SanCap Bank will NEVER ask for your complete account number, PIN, CVV code, or full social security number in a text, email, or through social media. If you receive a message asking for that kind of information, do not respond!
- If you receive an unexpected text or email claiming to be from SanCap Bank (or any financial institution) asking you to take action using a link DO NOTclick on the link. These messages are meant to panic or frighten you into thinking there were funds taken from one of your accounts, to bait you into clicking on the fraudulent link.
- If you detect suspicious account activity instead of clicking on a link to check your account, log in to your account through our website or mobile app like you normally would.
- If you feel uneasy, suspicious, uncertain, or uncomfortable with any communications you receive from us PLEASE call us directly. Any one of our team members can verify if we contacted you and for what reason.
Remembering to put the above steps into practice BEFORE you take any action regarding your bank accounts can help us protect you and your finances against fraud. If you have any further questions, please contact one of our team members at 239-472-6100 for more information.
